Syllabus: An important question in Hamiltonian mechanics is to describe qualitative properties of the dynamics under consideration. In general, this is a hard problem but it can be tackled for those systems that are known to be integrable, i.e. that admit the "largest number" of constants of motion. In spite of their relatively simple dynamical behaviour, integrable Hamiltonian systems play a prominent role in Hamiltonian mechanics and beyond, ranging from symplectic geometry and Lie theory to quantum mechanics.

The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the geometry of such systems from a symplectic perspective. After introducing the necessary tools from symplectic geometry, we will study the structure of integrable Hamiltonian systems near regular points and regular (connected components of) fibres, proving the Darboux-Carathéodory and the Liouville-Arnol'd theorems. The theory will be illustrated by some (simple) examples.

Possible extra topics (if time permits and/or the course is extended to 18 hours): Lagrangian fibrations and their global invariants, an introduction to singular orbits and fibres of integrable systems, the local and global geometry of non-commutative integrable Hamiltonian systems.

This is a joint course with Università di Verona, and it will be taught remotely and in English.

Grupo de Trabalho: Análise Topológica de Dados (Session #5)

Speaker: Paulo Gusmão, UFF.

Date: 22 oct 2020, 16h.

Abstract: Neste grupo de trabalho nos reuniremos para estudar trabalhos relevantes sobre Análise Topológica de Dados, tanto na parte teórica como aplicada.

Neste encontro, continuaremos discutindo o artigo de Facundo Mémoli e Osman Berat Okutan intitulado "Quantitative Simplification of Filtered Simplicial Complexes" https://arxiv.org/abs/1801.02812. Nesse trabalho é apresentado um novo invariante definido nos vértices de um dado complexo simplicial filtrado, chamado condensidade, que controla o impacto de se remover vértices em homologia persistente. O trabalho se concentra na filtração de Vietoris-Rips.

LAWCG 2020 + MDA 2020

(IX Latin-American Workshop on Cliques in Graphs + Discrete Mathematics and Applications Workshop)

Date: 25 nov 2020.

Place: Room 207, Bloco H, Campus Gragoatá, UFF.

Confirmed Plenary Talks: João Meidanis (UNICAMP, Brazil), Carmen Ortiz (U Valparaíso, Chile); Monica Villanueva (USACH, Chile).

We are very pleased to announce that the 9th Latin American Workshop on Cliques in Graphs will be held remotely on November 25th, 2020. Following the previous workshops in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2002), La Plata, Argentina (2006), Guanajuato, Mexico (2008), Itaipava, Brazil (2010), Buenos Aires, Argentina (2012), Pirenópolis, Brazil (2014), La Plata, Argentina (2016), and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2018), the workshop is meant to foster interaction between the Latin American Graph Theory and Combinatorics community, whose research interests include cliques, clique graphs, the behavior of cliques and other topics in Graph Theory.

This year LAWCG will take place in conjunction with the Discrete Mathematics and Applications Workshop (MDA). The MDA (www.mda.uff.br) is a national scientific event which brings together researchers from renowned research centers in the field of Discrete and Combinatorial Mathematics, and students and teachers from public high schools. Since 2013, MDA has promoted the dissemination of Mathematics through activities inserted in projects supported by Brazilian funding agencies CAPES, CNPq and FAPERJ.

The official languages are English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
